World Malaria Report 2021

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published its 2021 World Malaria Report, assessing global and regional malaria trends over the last year and providing an opportunity to reflect on progress towards global targets.

The report has shown that without the incredible amount of work and effort put in by governments and organisations to mitigate the worst-case scenario of the pandemic, which could have seen a doubling of malaria deaths between 2019-2020, the increase was kept to 12 per cent. This figure is still far too high, but the timing of the pandemic was such that it exacerbated the global malaria burden that had already been plateauing in recent years.

HACEY Health Initiative has partnered with CAMA to launch a 3-year partnership called the End Malaria Project. The project, designed in line with the WHO & the National Malaria Elimination Programme, has the bold goal of saving 50,000 lives by 2023, starting in Nigeria before scaling to other countries.
