Every year, millions of people, the most of them are children, die from diseases that are generally preventable due to a lack of access to clean water and basic sanitation. Approximately 5,000 children daily die of preventable diarrheal diseases such as cholera and dysentery, which spread when people drink or cook with contaminated water. A lack of water for personal hygiene contributes to the spread of completely preventable diseases such as trachoma, which has blinded approximately six million people.

Water is necessary for survival and through our Clean Water Initiative project, we have improved the availability of water, sanitation and hygiene practices in primary health centres (PHC) and schools within communities, all in a bid to improve the overall health outcomes of the most vulnerable population in the communities – women and children. We have impacted communities in Delta, Imo and Ondo state.  

Over the course of implementing the project, we’ve handed over water facilities comprising electricity-powered boreholes, generator set, generator house, water tank, borehole safety iron, and water filter to communities in project states.

We’ve trained health and education workforce from selected primary health care centers and public schools across project states on safe water, and proper sanitation and hygiene practices.   Also, we’ve trained community members on safe water, proper sanitation and hygiene practices across project states and reached over a million social media users with messages on safe water, proper sanitation and hygiene practices.   

Water is life’s matter and matrix, mother and medium. We never know the worth of water till the well is dry. You too can make a change via our clean water project.
